REVIEW: American Idol Alum, Scotty McCreery, Packs MGM Northfield Park for Country Show

Published on

NORTHFIELD, OH – Country star and former American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery took the Center Stage at MGM Northfield Park on July 7th, 2023. McCreery has been to northeast Ohio many times, including performances at Country Jam to private fundraising events like Guitars for Girls.

The “Five More Minutes” singer kicked off the show at 9:00 PM with a rowdy crowd that packed the room. He brought together a setlist of songs going back to his American Idol days and up through his current projects. His performance included “This Is It”, “Damn Straight”, “In Between”, “You Time”, and closed with an encore of “Five More Minutes”.

McCreery is a family man and took some time to talk about the stories that inspired his hits “This Is It” and “Five More Minutes”.

In 1998, he met his now-wife, Gabi, for the first time at just five years old. Since then, they grew up together going to school and becoming close friends. But it took McCreery until his senior year of high school to finally ask Gabi on a date. That date brought them to a favorite restaurant of Scotty’s – Bojangles. “This Is It” was a song he had written for Gabi when he was planning to propose to her. They got engaged in the mountains of North Carolina. The McCreery’s have recently welcomed their first child together, son Merrick ‘Avery’ McCreery.

His other big hit, “Five More Minutes” was written shortly after the death of his grandfather – someone he was close with. As the title says, after we lose someone, we always wish we had just five more minutes with them. The lyrics of the song reminisce on the things McCreery and his grandfather used to do together and the things that he wishes he had five more minutes of.

His performance at MGM Northfield park was one to remember. His baritone sounds and the emotion he puts into every live performance pulls on the heartstrings of everyone that attends the show. We can’t wait for his return to northeast Ohio!
