Americana band JD & The Straight Shot are set to release their 6th studio album titled Good Luck and Good Night on September 15th.

Led by vocalist/guitarist Jim Dolan, JD and the Straight Shot hit the target with their latest release.  The band is full of seasoned musicians who have played and toured with the likes of B.B. King, Robert Plant, Rod Stewart and Levon Helm- just to name a few.  The Straight Shot consist of: guitarist Marc Copley, bassist Byron House, percussionist Shawn Pelton and fiddler/vocalist Erin Slaver.

The musicianship is great throughout the album and Slaver’s fiddle playing particularly stands out.  Slaver and Dolan’s vocals mesh nicely, especially on the songs “Ballad of Jacob Marley” and “Moonlight.”

Perhaps the best song on the album is a surprise cover of the Three Dog Night’s “Shambala.”  The vocal harmonies are well done and you can tell the band is having fun playing this song.

Another cover song on the album was written by their past touring mates, the Eagles.  “It’s Your World Now” is a nice tribute to Glenn Frey who originally sang the song on the Long Road Out Of Eden record.

There are a couple misses on the album as well;  “I Know You Know I Know” and “Tonight” don’t quite seem to fit in with the rest of the songs.  But overall, I believe Good Luck and Good Night  is the best record that the band has released to date.

You can also see JD & The Straight Shot at the Hard Rock Rocksino when they open up for the Doobie Brothers on September 22.
