Last weekend, Cleveland’s own Michael Cartellone displayed his artwork at the  Hilton Cleveland Downtown.  Michael is a great artist in his own right, but is perhaps he is best known as the drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd and the supergroup Damn Yankees.

It was part family reunion and part high school reunion for Cartellone who graduated from Solon High School.  There were family members, former classmates, teachers and friends that walked through the assortment of paintings that were on display and available for purchase.

Cartellone used several different kinds of canvases and drum heads to display his work.  There was a Cleveland connection to some of his paintings that included one of Mr. Jingeling’s keys, different soda bottles from Little Tom, and the sign to Captain Frank’s restaurant.  Many other pieces related to rock and roll, mostly focusing on his band Lynyrd Skynard or some of his heroes like David Bowie and Michael Jackson.

For every painting that was sold, Cartellone would meet the buyer and take a picture with them and their purchase.  He also graciously signed the back of the painting with a short note.

It was a very successful event and it was nice to see Cartellone step out from the drum kit and show his other artistic side.
