Who is Chris Botti?

Well, if you’re a jazz fan and don’t know the answer to that question then you’re missing out on one of the best jazz trumpeters to appear in the wake of Miles Davis’ absence.

Born in Oregon and spending a portion of his youth in Italy, the 53-year old musician has spent the better part of three decades perfecting his craft as a trumpeter who can both blend in with an orchestra or take center stage on the several albums showcasing his immense talent behind the horn.

Starting off his very successful collaboration with Columbia Records in the early 2000s, Botti has released several albums which have cracked the US Billboard Top 200, but racked up the #4 and #1 spots on the Billboard U.S. Jazz charts. His first three Columbia releases, starting with Night Sessions in 2001 hit the #4 spot on the Jazz charts while his last four efforts (When I Fall in Love, To Love Again, Italia, and Impressions) all reached the #1 spot on Billboard’s U.S. Jazz Charts.

Oh yeah, he’s a Grammy winner as well. In 2013, he took home the award forĀ Impressions in the “Best Pop Instrumental Album” category. Which is kind of a misnomer; his work is a tad more nuanced than your standard pop fare.

This Friday, July 1st, Botti will be playing a concert at the Hard Rock Live venue at Northfield’s Hard Rock Rocksino. This will be his first appearance in Northeast Ohio since his concert at Cain Park a year ago.
