Without a doubt – two of the biggest names in pop music – Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z called Cleveland Ohio home – if only for an evening. Currently touring stadiums across the US with their OTR-II tour, it was Cleveland’s turn to take in some of the magic.

It’s so great to see and hear Cleveland alive again with the sounds of major stadium acts stopping in town and making the night electric.  The crowds in and around First Energy Stadium were huge – parking was at a premium but the spirit was high as fans dreamed of being in the same space with a pair of true legends.

Giant video screens fill the entire stage  – actually likely the largest video screens I’ve ever seen. What is hidden behind those screens will remain that way until the big moment when Beyonce and Jay-Z finally hit the stage.  At this point I have to reveal – I don’t know much about Beyonce and Jay-Z’s music.  I’m a metal guy but – the power and majesty of this pair of performers cannot – and will not be denied.

What can only be described as pop culture theater took place on this hot, muggy, July night?  The giant video screens boldly proclaim – THIS IS REAL LIFE – and with that the giant screens part to reveal Beyonce and Jay-Z high in the air – as they slowly descend to stage level the intensity of the crowd reaches a fever pitch – at times the crowd is so loud that the music from the stage seems muted and the enthusiasm is infectious.  Although I honestly know very little of the music that is washing over me – there is zero doubt of the level of talent and perfection that this show provides.

An amazing set of well over 30 songs  – weave a tale – a play if you will and through it all we are treated to the catalog that these two amazing performers have amassed.

The stage production is lavish and exciting.  Lots of smoke, fireworks but what is truly impressive is the choreography.  At several points in the show the duo are flanked by an actual wall of dancers – let that sink in – a wall of dancers.

The size of the production is epic and all in attendance for this special evening went home knowing that they had infact witnessed something of epic proportions.

Some performers trancend defination – Beyonce and Jay-Z are two such performers.  Wednesday nights event will not soon be forgotten  – The OTR-II tour is without a doubt a must see evening if they make a stop anywhere near you.
