We’re not too much into politics here at NEO Music Scene, but when something akin to a revolution comes to your hometown then, by god, you’d better send a photographer.  So when the opportunity to attend a Bernie Sanders rally came across our desk you can betcha we took the bait.  Is this coverage tangential to our mission here at NEO?  Perhaps, but when we get closer to the general election, Cleveland gets an awful lot of visits from big time musicians…and we appreciate that, for a weekend or so, northeast Ohio is the epicenter of THE place to be in this country.

Sanders, surging from behind in a “there’s-no-way-in-hell-you-have-a-chance-to-win-this-thing” has been giving the Democrat establishment a run for its money.  Two polls placed him six points ahead of presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton this week and, based on yesterday morning’s Baldwin Wallace University appearance, this juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down.

An almost-packed gymnasium on BW’s campus played host to this rally; the Vermont senator spoke for almost an hour to a mixed crowd of curious college students and fervent supporters of Sanders’ brand of optimism.

NEO Music Scene expects to cover the election this summer and into the early hours of early November, when our next president is chosen.  We’ll be present at the RNC this summer for what is sure to be an interesting week in downtown Cleveland.

Brian Lumley has been a photographer for almost fifteen years. He started shooting national parks and landscapes in late 2000 and gravitated towards concert photography in 2010. Holding a Bachelors Degree in Film Studies from Bowling Green State University, he worked in the motion picture industry for a short while before realizing that still images were more interesting to him than moving ones.
